The purpose of past editions of the Conrad Festival, the largest literary event in Poland, was to exemplify how to talk about reality. This time around, the invited writers will be discussing how reality comes into being thanks to literature. The week-long encounter with the world's best authors, critics, and translators will be an opportunity to discuss such concepts as objects, words, images, ideas, places, and characters. Hence the theme of the festival - Realities. The invited guest list is impressive and includes (among many others) Almudena Grandes, author of the prize-winning novel Las edades de Lulú, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of the popular novel Americanah, and Dmitrij Bukow, one of the most popular writers in today's Russia. The festival, named after Joseph Conrad, an eminent Polish writer who wrote exclusively in English.
