Festivaletteratura in Mantua

Festivaletteratura in Mantua

Since 1997, Festivaletteratura is one of the most awaited Italian cultural events of the year, a five-day meeting with authors, readings, guided tours, shows, and concerts with artists from all over the world, who meet in Mantua to live in an unforgettable party atmosphere.

Internationally renowned storytellers and poets participate in the Festival, the most interesting voices of emerging literature, and still essayists, musicians, artists, scientists, according to a broad and curious meaning of literature, which is not denied to the knowledge of territories and languages far from the traditional fees.

Particular attention is paid to children and adolescents: numerous meetings, shows, and workshops are designed only for children or for adults and children together. All of this in Mantua, a pearl of the Renaissance recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, where the collected dimension of the city brings together authors and readers, allowing everyone to move easily from one appointment to another.

Starting from an initiative “from the bottom” of simple citizens who immediately tried to share their idea with the rest of the city – inspired by a consolidated model in other European countries, in particular the Anglo-Saxon area – the Festival was immediately made precisely from the Mantuan community, as demonstrated by the widespread adherence of small and large economic realities among the supporters and sponsors, the extraordinary participation at the level of volunteering, the provision of spaces or other collaborations by individual persons or associations of the territory.

To date Festivaletteratura, enriched by the creation of an archive where the materials accumulated over years of activity are collected, keeps its innovative drive intact and continues to be a reference point for authors (Italian and otherwise) who renew their adhesion to the formula original, for volunteers of all ages who embody the seriously playful spirit, for cultural institutions, libraries and reading groups that offer an essential support to the increasingly consolidated realization of projects and initiatives able to continue inside and outside the Festival during the year.

Fourth International Literature Festival Odessa

Fourth International Literature Festival Odessa

The Festival aims to underscore the cultural charisma and international character of the city and to contribute to strengthening its connections with other cultural metropolises in Europe and on other continents. The Festival’s program will express this with its international character, which will in no way be restricted to (but will include) accents on Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region; rather – like the festivals in Switzerland and Berlin headed by Hans Ruprecht and Ulrich Schreiber.
Authors from Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, France, Canada, the USA, Mexico, and India will attend and read their texts.
Along with purely literary events, there will also be events for political discussions devoted to European and non-European themes.
The Festival is bilingually designed: foreign authors’ texts will be read in their original languages and in Ukrainian translation. The talks will be simultaneously or consecutively translated.
The main part of the program will be held in the Literature Museum. Other events will take place at the Odessa Regional Puppet Theatre, the State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Hotel Londonskaya.
The Festival will receive organizational support from a local committee.
